\nI originally wrote the main hook line for this, \u201cEverybody wants to be somebody (else)\u201d, for a poem called \u201cThe Clique\u201d back around 1997.\u00a0 I found it again in my old notebook around 2011 and developed it into the funk jam that became this song. \u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n

In\u00a0the fourteen years in between\u00a0I went from being a pure jazz musician to a goth to a Christian, I adopted\u00a0 a variety of names and identities\u00a0 for different projects, explored my gender and sexuality and experienced all manner of social groupings and life experiences, only to find after all that I\u2019m not that much different from when I began, it\u2019s just slightly more in perspective now. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In a world so harsh, uncaring, competitive and rough
\nYou can often get the feeling that you’re just not good enough
\nSo you try to be more popular, try to be the star
\nChange yourself, homogenise
\nBut you’re amazing as you are<\/p>\n

Let go from the get go
\nWhy sacrifice for someone else’s dreams?
\nFolks will snipe and criticise
\nFolks will hate you too
\nBut the answer isn’t always what it seems
\nWe are created as we are, not as we’re wanted to be
\nYou can’t improve a flower by wishing it a tree<\/p>\n
