It was a lazy morning up in heaven
\nAround about twenty past eleven
\nAn angel came to God’s right hand
\nSaid “Don’t ask me why ’cause I don’t understand
\nBut the Devil’s just come to the door
\nSays he doesn’t want to be evil anymore”.<\/p>\n

Now there’s no need for the end of days
\nThere’s no need for a holy blaze
\nLet the people of the world rejoice
\nGo out and make a joyful noise
\nEverything’s going to be OK
\nBecause the Devil did repent today.<\/p>\n

Flitting back two thousand years
\nJesus knew his time was near
\nAs he wandered strangely casually
\nIn the garden of Gethsemane
\nBut Judas had a change of heart
\nHe didn’t want to play his part
\nInstead of kissing Jesus as he neared
\nHe told those soldiers to kiss his rear<\/p>\n

Now there’s no need for Christ to die
\nNo need for Him to be crucified
\nNo need for a resurrection
\nNo need for a new direction
\nCancel the communion call
\nIt wasn’t the last supper after all
\nThe Son Of Man is living still
\n‘Cause Judas Escariot did alright this time<\/p>\n

Way back at the very start
\nIn the secret garden’s heart
\nA lady talking to a snake
\nSaid, “No thanks. This just feels fake”.<\/p>\n

Now there’s no need for the fall of man
\nThere’s no need for a masterplan
\nThere’s no need for will to be free
\nNo need for humanity
\nNo need for nephilm, judges, kings
\nNot much need for anything
\nNo flaming sword, no flood, no war
\nJust happy gardeners for evermore<\/p>\n

So God stood up and went outside
\nAnd there was Satan, arms out wide
\n“It’s true”, he said, “I’ve seen the light
\nThere’s no need for us to fight”.
\nGod looked the Devil up and down
\nHe thought about it with a frown
\nThen across his face their came a smirk
\n“Very funny”, he said, “Get back to work!”<\/p>\n

This is one of those pieces that everyone gets to misunderstand in their own particular way.\u00a0 The best way I can describe it is as a comment on the need for figures to occupy villainous roles, in similar vein to the Rolling Stones ‘Sympathy For The Devil’, the Gnostic Gospel of Judas and the mediaeval song\u00a0 ‘Adam Lay Y Bounden’.
